about
Gypsy Heart was originally written as solo. This song is about breaking free from the society pressures of being in your thirties and unmarried or breaking away from unhealthy dating patterns. It can be liberating to explore your independence while discovering your strengths that come with it. Then, came along my talented friend, Jason Lisko. He helped me in turning this fun song into a playful duet, having a Johnny Cash and June Carter vibe. We started recording December 2016 and it grew from there. I feel grateful to have lived in such a supportive and talented music community, such as the one in Seoul, South Korea (HBC neighborhood). This song grew instrumentally, with guitar (Ben Akers), mandolin (Daniel Daugherty), cello (Jeremy Heaven) and Ryan Murfield (banjo). However, the mixing and producing by BA Wheeler (Union Studios), made it possible! I hope this song empowers women all over to be confident in themselves to explore their independence. And I hope everyone can enjoy the fun vibe it offers. Thank you for the love and support!
Much love,
Maggie Crossett
lyrics
Gypsy Heart~
Chorus: I've got a gypsy heart not a jaded soul
I've managed to make it on my own
I'd rather be, rather be free
M: My brothers and sisters are married with kids
my mom still talks about me getting hitched
oh trust me when I say, I'd rather be alone
J: You say you don't need or want anyone
I know you've been cheated, I know you've been wronged
but trust me when I say, you should give up your stubborn ways
Chorus
Instrumental Break
M: I've faced the challenges, struggle and strife
I'm not ready to settle nor be any man's wife
I'd rather be free
J: Does it have to be so black and white?
I can love you today and through the night
And when the morning comes, we can go our separate ways
Chorus
Bridge: Oh prove me wrong, prove me wrong, prove me wrong
with your same games and your fake charm
just let me be, let me be!
Chorus to End~
